Module 2: Instructional Routine I

I think the first article discusses an effective approach with interactive read-alouds. The teacher first showed the students the cover of the book and asked them to make predictions on what they think the book will be about. She then gave students an opportunity to talk with a partner and share their ideas. She then read the “about the author” note to the class which resulted in another option the book could be about, where the students then talked with their partners to discuss. With this technique, the teacher is providing more learning and insight for the students, having them use evidence from the text provided and getting them more involved in the beginning rather than asking questions at the end.

The second article discusses implementing digital read alouds which I believe to be very important in this day and age. Technology is everywhere, and certainly won’t be going away, but in fact, its use will become more prevalent. It was in first grade when my school first introduced students to computer use, I even remember it was those Apple computers with the different colors, and I am grateful for that because it helped me excel throughout the years and utilize tools that I need for today and the future. Unfortunately, some schools lack the professional development for teachers on how to show their students how to use some of this technology. There are also many students who may not have access to computers at home, but fortunately, public libraries and schools help this problem. It’s important to integrate technology into your classroom because the students will need the skills now more than ever, and it will also be helpful to them in more ways than one such as being able to do collaborative work with peers without traveling, creating free blogging sites for written work,  and searching the web for quick information they may need.
